  • Notice of School Board Election

    A school board election will be held in and for Independent School District No. 206 (Alexandria Public Schools) on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 for the purpose of electing four school board members for four-year terms. If more than two candidates file affidavits of candidacy for any specific seat, Minnesota Statutes, Section 205A.03 requires that nominees must be chosen at a primary election. 

    Notice of Filing Dates for Election to the School Board

    The period for filing Affidavits of Candidacy for the office of school board member of Independent School District No. 206 shall begin on May 17, 2022, and shall close at 5:00 p.m. on May 31, 2022. 

    Affidavits of Candidacy are available from the school district clerk, 1410 S. McKay Ave, Ste. 201, Alexandria, MN beginning May 17, 2022. The filing fee for this office is $2.

    School Board Election

    The filing period for the school board election closed on May 31st. Ten candidates have filed for the four open seats, broken down as follows:

    • Position #2: Vern Engstrom and Alan Zeithamer
    • Position #3: Lynne M. Lommen, Joel A. Novak, Greg Odell and Shawn Reilly
    • Position #4: Dennis Conn, Laura Knudsen and Sandra Susag
    • Position #5: Maureen Eigen

    With four candidates for Position #3 and three candidates for Position #4, a primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 9 and the two candidates who receive the most votes for each position will be on the ballot for the November 8 general election. Candidates for Position #2 and Position #5 will not participate in the primary election, but will be placed on the November 8 general election ballot.

    Below are the candidates' names that will appear on the ballot for the general election on November 8, 2022:

    • Position #3: Shawn Reilly, Lynn Lommen
    • Position #4: Sandy Susag (incumbent), Laura Knudsen
    • Position #5: Maureen Eigen (incumbent)

    Starting September 23 through November 7, you can vote early in person at the Douglas County Auditor-Treasurer's Office, 821 Cedar St.
    Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    Additional Absentee Voting Hours:
    Saturday, October 29: 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
    Saturday, November 5: 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

    Request an absentee ballot by calling 320-762-3077 or download and print an absentee application at Once you have completed the application, return it to the Douglas County Auditor-Treasurer's Office, 821 Cedar St. Once the application is received, an absentee ballot will be mailed to you with instructions. Mail your ballot back in the pre-paid, pre-addressed envelope that was provided with your ballot materials.
